What does a Business Development and Support Representative do?
The BDSR is responsible for providing customer service and retail support while also driving business development and growing the Swish brand by engaging prospective customers over the phone and sometimes in person. This role is primarily responsible for facilitating new business growth and onboarding new customers through the actions of prospecting and strategic sales planning. The BDSR will focus on identifying and engaging new business opportunities primarily from an inside sales format within the branch, while also attending appointments and meeting prospective customers outside the branch as needed.
More specific responsibilities:
- Support branch customer service and retail store operations as needed, including processing customer orders, handling inquiries, assisting with e-commerce, managing basic invoicing and inventory tasks, and ensuring seamless customer service.
- Understand and articulate Swish’s Value Proposition to customers, providing solutions to grow profitable sales.
- Establish, maintain, and develop relationships with potential customers through outbound prospecting efforts, as well as those who visit/contact the branch.
- Research, analyze, and identify new potential customers and develop targeted sales plans to increase customer base within the market.
- Onboard new customers and provide initial and any ongoing support as required.
- Maintain up-to-date customer sales activity in our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool to track our sales pipeline.
- Support vendor programs as well as internal marketing initiatives.
- Provide customers with written proposals and demonstrations of products.
- Stay up to date on industry trends and market conditions to better serve customers.
- Provide pricing to customers and negotiate on behalf of Swish within the defined sales and pricing guidelines.
- Ensure the timely and successful delivery of our solutions according to customer needs.
- Participate in continued education and training to enhance product knowledge and selling skills.
What do you need?
- Prior sales experience in a Business Development or Customer Service role would be ideal.
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License, a reliable vehicle, and the appetite to travel locally to meet with prospective customers in person.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Business and financial acumen related to sales forecasting, opportunity management, and customer planning.
- Experience working in a retail or branch-based setting is an asset.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.
- Experience using CRM software and other sales tools. Strong computer skills required, and the ability to work with emerging technologies and technical concepts.
