Strive is a non-profit registered charity providing residential and community inclusion support to children, youth, adults, and older adults throughout the Lower Mainland since 1988. If you can relate to our mission and vision, we want you to work for us in the role of the Occupational Health and Safety (“OHS”) Officer!

The OHS Officer maintains and improves the overall safety programs of Strive Living Society, ensuring that safety programs are in accordance with recognized best practices, established legislation, and applicable collective agreements.

This role includes staying informed of industry trends, promoting a respectful and supportive culture, coordinating staff return-to-work plans, and tracking the working-alone system. The Occupational Health and Safety Officer manages injury investigations, liaises with WorkSafeBC, and maintains records on staff incidents and hazards. This role also oversees OHS Committee activities, processes hazard reports, prepares and distributes communications, and ensures compliance with CARF standards.

Additionally, this role contributes to policy and procedure development, maintains confidentiality, and supports the creation of internal and external communications, including promotional materials, to enhance public awareness and organizational support.

Reports to Occupational Health and Safety Manager.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm

Compensation: this position ranges from $25 to $32 per hour, depending on your experience and qualifications. *plus benefits upon meeting eligibility requirements.

*Some benefits have eligibility requirements of surpassing three (3) months and securing a regular position of 20hrs/week or more. The benefits and criteria may change from time to time at the discretion of Strive.

 

Key Responsibilities:

· Develop, implement, and maintain Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) programs in compliance with legislation, CARF standards, and best practices.

· Investigate workplace injuries, manage WorkSafeBC claims, and maintain incident records.

· Collaborate with HR on staff return-to-work plans and ensure the effectiveness of the working-alone system.

· Lead OHS Committee activities, including hazard assessments, incident reporting, and compliance audits.

· Conduct on-site inspections and promote a safe workplace culture through training and awareness initiatives.

· Prepare and distribute safety communications, including reports, policies, and promotional materials.

· Procure and maintain safety equipment for organizational sites.

· Uphold confidentiality and contribute to policy and procedure development to enhance safety and service quality.

Job qualifications include (if you do not have all of these, but demonstrate you are a good fit for the position, Strive may be able to assist you to acquire some of these requirements):

· Certificate or training in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.

· Knowledge of WorkSafeBC laws, unionized environments, and healthcare/social services.

· Experience in developing strategic documents, reports, and promotional materials.

· Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and mobile computing tools.

· Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle with insurance required.

· Criminal record clearance.

· Physical ability to perform job duties.

· Eligibility to work in Canada.
