First Credit Union is searching for a passionate and driven Business Banking Advisor to join our Business Banking Team in the Comox Valley! If you thrive on building relationships, supporting local businesses, and providing expert financial guidance, this is the perfect opportunity for you. In this role, you will manage a diverse portfolio, grow our business deposit portfolio through strong community engagement, and develop lasting member relationships. You will also collaborate with our Business Lending team to identify cross-selling opportunities, helping businesses access the financial solutions they need to succeed.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develops and executes long-term and weekly sales plans to retain existing business and attract new opportunities while fostering meaningful relationships that drive departmental success.  
  • Proactively seeks new business by building strong community networks and maintaining relationships with external organizations and individuals to generate referrals.
  • Cultivates long-term relationships with existing members, conducting annual account reviews to ensure ongoing financial alignment.
  • Engages with members through consultations and meetings to understand their current and future financial needs.
  • Oversees a portfolio of business members with large deposit relationships, including business banking members, Strata Corporations, non-profits, and municipalities across our communities.
  • Collects and reviews necessary documentation from potential and existing members to complete business account applications, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Advises members on FCU Collabria VISA products and submits applications on Lending 360, including Springboard.
  • Provides ongoing support and guidance for members using Payment Stream (AFT) services, conducting financial analyses and annual reviews as needed.
  • Assists businesses with foreign exchange solutions.
  • Offers expert advice on Merchant Services and liaises with the FCU provider.
  • Provides guidance on payroll services to support business operations.
  • Collaborates with the Commercial Lending, retail banking, and wealth management teams to identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Supports branch employees by serving as a subject matter expert on business banking processes, products, and services.
  • Contributes to process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and elevate the member experience.
  • Ensures compliance with the First Credit Union Investment and Lending Policy (ILP) and other procedural policies.

MINIMUM SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2-5 years of experience in financial services with a strong foundation in commercial/small-business banking and business development.
  • Proven expertise in credit union commercial banking, relationship management, and compliance.
  • Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to maintain strong relationships with key interest holders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
  • Exceptional research, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with keen attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership.
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities and a foundational understanding of portfolio management.
  • Familiarity with online financial services tools, including Central1 manuals, personal property registry, and credit bureaus.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Adaptable and capable of working both independently and collaboratively to drive results.

Compensation: Base salary of $76,067 annually + commission
