Job Description:
This is an ideal entry-level position to begin a career for someone with a passion for law and business. The Franchise Legal Assistant will work closely with the current Supervisor, Franchise Legal and other staff in the franchising department to coordinate appropriate paperwork and documentation for Pet Valu franchisees and will provide administrative support to support the team. The successful candidate will interact regularly with a wide range of contacts including franchisees and other internal teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Franchising Support:
- Answer general inquiries from franchisees relating to the status of their documents, processes, fees, etc.
- Provide administrative support to the team as required
Document Production:
- Prepare franchise documents (Franchise Agreements, Subleases and related documents) for the franchising of corporate stores.
- Franchise Renewals
- Keep track of all the renewal dates for the year, and place reminders for 6 months out to begin the renewal process.
- Prepare and send out the Franchise Disclosure Document (“FDD”) for their renewal.
- Create the renewal documents for execution and arrange for franchisee execution and return of all renewal documents.
- Provide notice to the Finance Department to update accounting system once renewals are received and renewal fee arrangements have been made.
- Sublease Extensions
- Keep track of renewal dates for expiring leases and prepare sublease amending agreements to reflect renewals in a timely manner.
- Arrange for franchisee execution and return, and follow up as required.
Skills, Experience, Education, Certifications
- Legal/business degree, or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of franchising law is preferred
- 2 years in an office environment (legal office environment, an asset)
