Position Summary

ILM seeks an exceptionally talented and seasoned Senior CG Talent Manager with a passion for delivering unparalleled client service. This crucial role within the Talent Management group involves leading and mentoring a team of artists and/or production staff across a portfolio of disciplines, including casting, career development, performance management, and resource scheduling. The Senior CG Talent Manager will partner with the Director of Talent and Senior Talent Managers to shape and implement the team's strategic objectives, while providing direct support and mentorship to Talent Managers, Associate Talent Managers, and Talent Coordinators to cultivate a high-performing and adaptable team.

What You'll Do

  • Manage a portfolio of artists and production staff, providing support and backup for other CG Talent Managers as needed.

  • Develop and maintain current and future resource need models, incorporating input from show project teams, creative leadership, and other relevant sources.

  • Proactively communicate with show project leaders and creative supervision regarding project requirements, crewing needs (start/end dates), and project milestones, anticipating and flagging potential challenges.

  • Maintain oversight of crew utilization using the proprietary resource management system, identifying trends and opportunities for optimization.

  • Develop and implement strategies for efficient resource allocation across projects.

  • Support and mentor Talent Managers and Associate Talent Managers in resolving crewing issues, providing guidance on negotiation strategies with Production and Capacity Planning to achieve effective solutions that benefit studio efficiency.

  • Act as a point of escalation for complex crewing challenges, facilitating collaborative problem-solving and ensuring equitable outcomes.

  • Facilitate a continuous feedback cycle throughout the year, including comprehensive annual performance reviews.

  • Provide timely, actionable, and constructive feedback to CG artists and production crew, supporting their growth and development towards specific objectives and long-term career goals.

  • Identify and nurture high-potential talent, creating development plans and opportunities for advancement within the studio.

  • Partner with the Recruitment function to define and achieve current and future talent acquisition goals, contributing to workforce planning and talent pipeline development.

  • Collaborate with the Human Resources function to establish and maintain a competitive employee engagement strategy, encompassing compensation, benefits, and other terms of employment.

  • Represent and champion the studio culture through thoughtful, transparent, and focused leadership, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.

  • Promote open communication and collaboration within the Talent Management team and across the studio.

  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in talent management, proactively seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Forecast and report on projected Department Overhead spends, and optimize crew utilization to minimize OH spend.

  • Partner with the Head of Department (HoD) to develop, support, and implement department initiatives that align talent development with company goals and needs.

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years experience in VFX production or operations. Strong production and people management skills required.

  • Understanding of CG terminology, and a thorough understanding of the processes and disciplines involved in CG post-production

  • Demonstrates awareness of up- and downstream needs of stakeholders, including Production, CG Artists, and support teams (Recruitment, HR)

  • Focus on strategic approach with the ability to address unexpected challenges in stride; calm, “can-do” attitude with an emphasis on collaborative communication.

  • Anticipates risks / challenges and pro-actively develops alternatives with key stakeholders

  • Proven analytical skills, effective scheduling and time management abilities

  • Strong communication, listening and people skills are essential.  Must be an outstanding people manager/supervisor, mentor and collaborator.

  • Creative problem solving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a diverse range of personality types, perspectives and talents

The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$110,600 to C$141,500 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other variable pay or benefits, may be offered dependent on the level and position offered.
