THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Corporate Counsel, the Summer Student will assist the Legal team in various tasks aimed at supporting governance, compliance, and legal accuracy in project work. This role requires strong research and writing skills to aid in the core project and other assignments as needed.
JOB DETAILS
Research governance functions and gather data on relevant appeals and statues to create reports and other related documents for the Legal team.
Compile data and references to case law, statutes, regulations, and legal articles.
Gather information and stay current on changing trends to support bylaw amendments or policy changes.
Assist in maintaining and updating databases and legal files to ensure smooth operations.
Revise documents to ensure clarity, cogency, and legal accuracy.
Assist Corporate Counsel with various administrative tasks and responsibilities as requested.

THE REQUIREMENTS
2nd to 3rd year law school student or equivalent education and experience.
Experience in using office software (e.g., Adobe, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Zoom).
Familiarity with governance best practices, procedures and legal terminology is an asset.
Previous experience in a legal or corporate environment is an asset.
Preference will be given to applicants who have taken courses in aboriginal law, administrative law, constitutional law, municipal law and/or statutory interpretation.
WHAT WE OFFER
The compensation for this position is between $25 and $30 per hour dependent on education and experience.
Our hybrid work model is designed for balance, with monthly allowances to support remote work and in-office collaboration on Wednesdays and Thursdays. This term, full-time role (36.25 hours/week, Monday–Friday) is based in our downtown Edmonton office.
